SASSA considers weekends, public holidays and payment-system conditions when setting the calendar. A date that appears likely from a previous year’s pattern is not an official payment date until SASSA publishes it.

SASSA Payment Dates 2028

2028 January to March

No official SASSA payment dates have been published for these months yet.

2028 April to December

No official SASSA payment calendar has been announced for these months yet.

There are currently no official SASSA payment dates for 2028.

Dates will be added to this page once SASSA publishes the relevant payment calendar. Any exact 2028 payment dates circulating before an official announcement should be treated as unconfirmed.

Which Grant Is Paid First?

SASSA staggers normal social grant payments instead of paying every beneficiary on one day.

The official schedule is normally published in this order:

  1. Older Persons Grants
  2. Disability Grants
  3. Children’s Grants
SASSA’s official calendar does not show every individual grant as a separate row.

It publishes the staggered payment cycle using the Older Persons, Disability and Children’s Grant categories. Check your own grant and payment method if you are unsure which payment cycle applies.

For information about each grant, see Type of SASSA Grants .

Why Do SASSA Payment Dates Change Each Month?

The payment cycle does not always start on the second day of the month. SASSA uses several scheduling rules when setting the calendar.

Not on the first day

SASSA’s current scheduling approach avoids making the normal grant payment date the first day of the month.

Avoid Mondays

The current scheduling criteria state that payment dates should not normally be set on a Monday.

Avoid weekends

Dates are adjusted so scheduled grant payments do not fall over a weekend.

Public holidays matter

Public holidays and the day immediately after a holiday can affect the date selected.

This explains why, for example, the October 2026 cycle starts on 2 October for Older Persons Grants but Disability and Children’s Grant payments continue on 5 and 6 October.

A normal pattern is not a guarantee.

Do not assume Older Persons will always be paid on the second, Disability on the third and Children’s Grants on the fourth. Use the actual date published for each month.

SASSA SRD R370 Payment Dates

R370 SEPARATE PAYMENT PROCESS

The COVID-19 SRD R370 does not use the standard Older Persons, Disability and Children’s Grant payment calendar shown above.

Successful SRD applicants should check their individual SRD status and payment information through the official SRD system.

The current SRD R370 provision has been extended through 31 March 2027.

An applicant can be approved for one month and have a different outcome in another month because SRD eligibility is assessed under its own rules.

Do not use a Children’s Grant payment date as your SRD R370 payment date.

SRD payment information must be checked separately.

Do You Have to Withdraw Your Grant on Payment Day?

No. Once grant money has been deposited into the beneficiary’s account, there is no need to withdraw all of it immediately on the scheduled payment date.

No first-day rush

You do not have to withdraw the grant as soon as the payment becomes available.

Money remains available

Funds already deposited into the account remain available for later access.

Use safe payment options

Where your account and card support it, consider normal electronic or retail payment options instead of withdrawing all the cash.

The payment date is when the grant becomes available under the normal cycle, not a deadline for spending or withdrawing it.

Beneficiaries do not lose money simply because they did not withdraw it on the first payment day.

Where Can SASSA Grant Money Be Paid?

The payment method depends on the beneficiary’s current approved arrangement.

This can include:

  • An approved bank account.
  • Postbank payment arrangements.
  • Other authorised payment arrangements where applicable.

If you still have an older SASSA payment card, read SASSA Gold Card and Postbank Black Card for the current card migration information.

What If Your SASSA Payment Is Late?

A missing payment does not always mean the grant has been permanently stopped.

1
Check whether it is actually your payment day

Older Persons, Disability and Children’s Grants are paid on different days.

2
Check your grant status

A review, suspension or application problem can affect the payment.

3
Check the bank or payment account

Confirm whether the money has entered the account before assuming SASSA did not pay it.

4
Check whether SASSA requested a review

A beneficiary selected for a review may have a different payment process or need to provide information.

5
Contact SASSA if the payment remains missing

Have your ID and grant information available when asking for assistance.

Use How to Check Your SASSA Grant Status if you need to investigate the grant first.

What If Your SASSA Grant Is Under Review?

SASSA can review beneficiaries to confirm that they still satisfy the requirements for a social grant.

A review can involve checking:

  • Identity information.
  • Income or assets.
  • Banking information.
  • Medical circumstances where applicable.
  • Other eligibility information.
A beneficiary under review should follow the specific instructions issued by SASSA.

Do not assume that the standard payment table overrides an individual review notice or a special payment arrangement announced for reviewed beneficiaries.
