The meanings for “bank details pending” and “reapplication pending” follow SASSA’s own SRD status guide. The status is shown separately for each month, so you can be approved in one month and declined in another.
Pending
SASSA has said that a status shows “pending” when its checks are not yet finished, and changes to “approved” once all the checks pass. Before approving, SASSA checks things such as:
- your citizenship or residence status with Home Affairs,
- whether you are registered for UIF with the Department of Employment and Labour,
- whether you receive another income, and
- your banking details.
A status that reads “period pending” is the same idea for a specific month: the checks for that month are not finished. Check again later in the month.
Approved
Approved means you met the requirements for that month. The status usually shows the payment date once payment has been arranged. If an approved payment does not arrive, call SASSA on 0800 60 10 11. See also SASSA payment dates.
Declined
Declined means SASSA assessed you for that month and found you did not qualify. The government has said that the main reasons for declined SRD applications are income levels, other financial support and failed verification checks. For example, money coming into your bank account that SASSA counts as income can lead to a decline for that month.
Common situations behind a decline:
| Situation | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Money came into your bank account | SASSA may count it as income for that month |
| You already get a social grant for yourself | The SRD grant is for people who do not receive another social grant themselves |
| You are registered for UIF | SASSA checks UIF registration with the Department of Employment and Labour |
| Your details do not match Home Affairs | SASSA checks your identity with Home Affairs |

How to Challenge a Declined Status
- Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and find the appeal (reconsideration) option. SASSA says the appeal link is on its SRD website.
- Choose the month that was declined and give your reason.
- Keep the reference number and any proof you sent, such as a bank statement.
- Wait for the outcome, which SASSA sends electronically. If the reconsideration fails, you can take the matter to the Independent Tribunal for Social Assistance Appeals.
Apply as soon as you can after a decline, because time limits apply. See our step-by-step guide on how to appeal a declined SRD application.
Bank Details Pending
SASSA cannot pay you until it has banking details or a payment method for you. Log in on srd.sassa.gov.za and submit your banking details. The account must be in your own name. See how to change your SRD banking details.
Reapplication Pending
SASSA has no reapplication from you for the period shown. Submit your application on srd.sassa.gov.za, then check your status again later.
Where to Check Your Status Safely

- By calling SASSA on 0800 60 10 11 (free, weekdays).
