Quick answer: On 31 October 2026, DStv in South Africa has five main packages: Starter (R150 on a decoder, R99 on Stream), Select (R339 or R299), Sports (R479 or R399), Movies & Series (R500 on both) and Premium (R979 or R799). EasyView stays at R30. The new packages that start on 5 November 2026 in other African countries do not change these South African prices.

DStv changed its South African packages on 17 September 2026. The old Access, Family and Compact names were replaced, and many people still search for them. This page gives every price, shows which package carries which sport, and explains what the news from other African countries means for you.

DStv Packages and Prices in South Africa

These are the monthly prices on DStv’s South African site on 31 October 2026.

Starter85+R150R99
Select100+R339R299
Sports115+R479R399
Movies & Series115+R500R500
Premium130+R979, or R799 on a 24-month contractR799

Compact Plus is not in the table because new customers can no longer buy it. If you already have it, DStv says it stays the same unless you choose to switch.

DStv says the R799 Premium contract price includes the Access Fee. Its package guide does not give the fee amount or say how it applies to the other decoder prices. If you pay by decoder, ask DStv for your full monthly total before you sign up.

Decoder or DStv Stream: Which Costs Less?

DStv Stream costs less than a decoder on four of the five main packages. Movies & Series is the same price on both.

SportsR479R399R80
Movies & SeriesR500R500R0
Premium (month to month)R979R799R180

The saving is not the whole cost. Stream runs on your internet connection, so add the cost of Wi-Fi or mobile data. A live football match can use a lot of data, so compare our cheapest data bundles guide before you cancel a decoder.

Premium on a decoder is also R799 if you sign a 24-month contract. You pay the same as Stream, but you are tied in for two years. Existing customers can take the deal in My Account on the DStv website, in the MyDStv app or through the call centre. DStv says new customers must call 011 289 2222.

Which Package Has Your Sport?

Sport is the main reason most people choose a package, and this is where the new line-up changed most. The table shows the cheapest package that carries each sport, according to DStv’s package guide.

Two points catch people out:

  • Springbok Tests are not on the Sports package. To watch the Springboks in November 2026 on DStv, you need Premium.
  • Movies & Series has 10 sport channels and full PSL coverage, but DStv’s list for it does not include SuperSport Cricket. If you follow the Proteas, look at Sports instead.

Check the PSL 2026/27 season guide for the teams and key dates of the league.

What Each Package Gives You

Starter has 85+ channels from R99. It includes Wethu+, SuperSport KICKOFF, kykNET & Kie, Moja Love, VIA, Star Life and kids’ channels such as Cartoon Network.

Select has 100+ channels from R299. This is now the home of Mzansi Magic, along with SuperSport PSL, CNN, National Geographic, BBC Lifestyle and Comedy Central. DStv suggests it for families.

Sports has 115+ channels from R399, and 17 of them are sport channels. You get everything in Select, plus SuperSport Cricket, M-Net Stars and BBC Brit.

Movies & Series has 115+ channels for R500. You get everything in Select, plus M-Net, M-Net Movies+, kykNET, Discovery Channel and BBC Earth.

Premium has 130+ channels from R799. It includes everything on the other packages, plus the sport that only Premium carries.

SABC 1, SABC 2, SABC 3 and e.tv are on all five main packages, so your SABC 1 soapies stay on whichever you pick.

What Happened to Access, Family and Compact?

DStv moved customers automatically, in phases, from 17 September 2026. You did not have to do anything, and DStv says nobody pays more for the new package.

Your account may still show the old name for a while. DStv says you still get the new channels when that happens. You do not need a new decoder, and existing add-ons such as Add Movies, Add Indian and XtraView stay available where they apply.

SuperSport Variety channels 1 to 4 also got new names. Channel 206 is now Football Plus, 207 is KICKOFF, 208 is Africa and 209 is Action. SuperSport Action became Extra on channel 210. DStv also says Disney+ is no longer available on the Streama and Explora boxes.

What the 5 November News Means for South Africa

Late in October 2026, reports said DStv prices were being cut by up to 42%, and that Premium would become Ultimate. Those stories are about other countries.

TechCentral reported on 28 October 2026 that nine other African markets show new line-ups, with top package prices falling in Uganda, Kenya, Zambia, Ghana, Malawi, Zimbabwe, Botswana and Namibia. South Africa is not on that list. Canal+, which owns MultiChoice, told TechCentral that South Africa already has its own updated line-up from September 2026.

On 31 October 2026, DStv’s South African pages still used the name Premium. We found no announcement of a South African price change for November.

How to Change Your DStv Package

Changing package is free, and you can do it as often as you like if you have no contract. Pick the way that suits you:

  1. Website: sign in on the DStv self-service page, open Account, choose Change Package, pick your package and confirm.
  2. MyDStv app: sign in, select your account, tap Change Package, choose and confirm.
  3. WhatsApp: save 060 060 3788, send “Change my package” and follow the prompts.
  4. USSD: dial *668# on your phone and choose Change Package in the DStv menu.
  5. Phone or in person: call 011 289 2222 or visit a MultiChoice service centre.

An upgrade starts as soon as any extra payment goes through. A downgrade starts on your next payment date, so you keep your current channels until then. Do not cancel to change package, because cancelling and reconnecting costs a reconnection fee.
