When Will the November Fuel Price Change?

The new prices start at midnight on Tuesday, 3 November 2026. That means they apply from Wednesday, 4 November 2026.

Note that 4 November is also the local elections public holiday. If you need to fill up before the increase, do it on Tuesday, 3 November.

Why Is Petrol So Expensive in 2026?

There are two main reasons:

  1. Oil prices. Brent crude oil went above $100 a barrel in October. This follows tension between the United States and Iran, and problems with shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.
  2. The rand. The rand is weaker than it was in early September. A weaker rand makes imported fuel cost more in rands.

How to Save on Fuel

  • Fill up before the first Wednesday of the month when an increase is expected.
  • Check your tyre pressure. Soft tyres use more fuel.
  • Drive at a steady speed and avoid hard braking.
  • Use fuel reward programmes from your bank or fuel station.
  • Combine short trips into one longer trip.

How Fuel Prices Affect Other Costs

When diesel goes up, the cost of moving goods goes up. Over time this can push up food prices and taxi fares. Plan your budget for the festive season with this in mind. See our guide to Black Friday 2026 in South Africa for tips on spending carefully.
