Coach Papi Zothwane

Sekhukhune started the 2026/27 season under Cedric Kaze, the Burundian coach who had worked at Kaizer Chiefs as assistant and later co-coach. The club announced him on 3 July 2026 as the replacement for Eric Tinkler. In August, Kaze told iDiski Times that the target was to finish at least in the top four.

The start was rough. Orlando Pirates beat Sekhukhune 1-0 in Polokwane and 3-0 at Orlando Stadium in the MTN8 semi-final in August, and also won the league game between the sides. On 1 September 2026 the club said Kaze had left by mutual agreement, with immediate effect, after seven games in charge.

Papi Zothwane, who was Kaze’s assistant, was promoted to head coach. Paulus Masehe is his assistant and Nascent Nkhwashu stays on as goalkeeper coach. Zothwane’s first league games were a 0-0 draw with TS Galaxy and a 1-1 draw at Stellenbosch.

Stadium: Where Sekhukhune Play

Sekhukhune’s main home ground is Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane, built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The club also plays some home games at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium next door and at Seshego Stadium, both in Polokwane. Polokwane City also play their home games in Polokwane, so the two Limpopo clubs share the city’s grounds.

The PSL fixture list names the venue for each game. Check it before you travel, because the ground can change from one home game to the next.

History and Trophies

The club began in 2019, when the owner of African All Stars, then in the SAFA Second Division, bought the National First Division status of Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila and moved the team to Limpopo as Sekhukhune United. In their first full season they won the National First Division in 2020/21 and were promoted.

Their biggest day so far was the 2023 Nedbank Cup final on 27 May 2023 at Loftus Versfeld. Vilakazi gave Sekhukhune the lead in the 13th minute, but Orlando Pirates won 2-1 with a Xoki penalty and a late goal from Terrence Dzvukamanja. Reaching the final gave Sekhukhune their first CAF Confederation Cup place, in 2023/24.
