AmaZulu are one of the oldest clubs in South African football. They have not won the top league since 1972, but the 2026/27 season has started as one of their best in years. This guide covers the club’s coach, home ground, results so far, coming games, squad changes and history.

Coach Arthur Zwane
AmaZulu appointed Arthur Zwane on Tuesday, 8 October 2024, at first as joint head coach with Vusumuzi Vilakazi, EWN and Sunday World reported at the time. He replaced Pablo Franco Martin after a poor start to that season. Zwane came from Kaizer Chiefs, where he was the youth coach and had earlier coached the first team for one season from 2022.
Zwane has been linked with other jobs in 2026, including Sekhukhune United and the Bafana Bafana technical team, but he has said he is committed to AmaZulu.
After the 2-1 win over Durban City on 13 October 2026, Zwane said on the club’s website: “We need to keep grinding out results.”

The MTN8 exit was painful: Sekhukhune scored the winner in the 97th minute of extra time at Chatsworth Stadium, and Zwane called his team’s defending “horrible”.
In the league, the team has been much tighter, with six wins from eight games. The 2-1 win at Durban City on 13 October 2026 was their fourth league win in a row.

Ngwenya led the league’s scoring charts with 8 goals in mid-October 2026. AmaZulu have a game in hand on Sundowns, but former coach Tony De Nobrega told KickOff it is “still too early” to call them title contenders.

Stadium: Where AmaZulu Play
Moses Mabhida Stadium, built for the 2010 FIFA World Cup, is AmaZulu’s main home ground. Like other Durban clubs, Usuthu also use smaller local grounds. Their MTN8 home game against Sekhukhune in August 2026 was played at Chatsworth Stadium. Check the venue for each match on the PSL fixture list before you travel.
Trophies and History
AmaZulu were formed in 1932 by Zulu migrant workers as Zulu Royal Conquerors. Supporters took over the club in 1974 and renamed it AmaZulu.

The club’s best modern season came in 2020/21, when Benni McCarthy led them to second place and a CAF Champions League place. That was also the first season under chairman Sandile Zungu, who bought the club in October 2020. In 2025/26 AmaZulu finished fourth with 47 points, behind champions Orlando Pirates.
