Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) Guide
What is Adult Matric?
The Amended Senior Certificate (ASC) is a matric qualification for adults 21+ who didn’t complete their National Senior Certificate (NSC). Offered by the Department of Basic Education, it’s equivalent to the NSC but based solely on exam results (no SBAs).

Who Can Register?
Requirements
- 21+ years old (by exam date)
- Grade 9 certificate or equivalent
- Two official languages at NQF Level 1
- ID/passport (certified copy)
Special Cases
- 18-20 year-olds may apply with provincial approval
- Non-citizens need study permits
- Previous matriculants can improve marks
