South Africa’s 2027 master calendar has 365 days. There are 12 named statutory public holidays, but 14 public-holiday calendar dates because Human Rights Day and Day of Goodwill fall on Sundays and the following Mondays are also public holidays. Public-school learners attend 197 actual school days. A standard Monday-to-Friday calculation gives 261 weekdays before public holidays and 251 working days after the 10 public-holiday dates that fall on weekdays are excluded.
This page is designed as a single master reference for the most useful South Africa 2027 calendar information. It combines official government dates with clearly labelled religious and social observances so that a user can immediately distinguish a national public holiday from a school-only closure, religious festival, family observance or planning date.
Only dates marked PH or OBS are statutory national public-holiday dates. The 26 April SCH marker is a Special School Holiday for public schools only. Christian, Islamic, Hindu and Jewish dates are religious observances unless they separately coincide with a statutory public holiday.
South Africa Public Holidays 2027
South Africa has 12 named statutory public holidays. Because Human Rights Day on 21 March and Day of Goodwill on 26 December both fall on Sundays in 2027, the following Mondays are also public holidays.
That produces 14 public-holiday calendar dates.

|---|---|---|---|
| 1 January | Friday | New Year’s Day | National public holiday |
| 21 March | Sunday | Human Rights Day | National public holiday |
| 22 March | Monday | Human Rights Day observed public holiday | Observed/additional Monday public holiday |

| 25 December | Saturday | Christmas Day | National public holiday |
| 26 December | Sunday | Day of Goodwill | National public holiday |
| 27 December | Monday | Day of Goodwill observed public holiday | Observed/additional Monday public holiday |
Workers’ Day on Saturday, 1 May and Christmas Day on Saturday, 25 December do not by themselves move to Monday. Monday, 27 December is a public holiday because Day of Goodwill falls on Sunday, 26 December.

Best Long Weekends and Annual-Leave Opportunities in 2027
New Year’s Day falls on Friday.
21 March is Sunday, making Monday 22 March a public holiday.
Take 23–25 March as approved annual leave to connect the observed Human Rights Day holiday with Easter: potentially 10 consecutive days away from work for a standard Monday-to-Friday worker.
Good Friday and Family Day create a ready-made four-day weekend.
Take Monday 26 April as annual leave. Public-school learners already have 26 April as a Special School Holiday.
National Women’s Day falls on Monday.
Heritage Day falls on Friday.
Take Friday 17 December after Day of Reconciliation on Thursday.
Day of Goodwill falls on Sunday, so Monday 27 December is also a public holiday.
See the full 2027 Long Weekend Planner for leave-day combinations and calculations.

Projected Islamic Dates in South Africa in 2027
Islamic months are lunar. South African Muslim bodies conduct and coordinate hilaal sightings, so calculated Gregorian equivalents should be treated as planning dates only.
The master calendar uses an ISL* tag and labels pre-calculated Eid dates as tentative because local crescent sighting can make the final South African date differ by a day.
| Planning date | Islamic date / event | Status |
|---|---|---|
| 6 January* | Isra and Mi’raj | Tentative |
| 8 February* | Projected Ramadan start | Confirm with South African hilaal announcement |
| 5 March* | Projected 27 Ramadan / last-ten-nights planning date | Do not claim one date is guaranteed Laylat al-Qadr |
| 10 March* | Tentative Eid al-Fitr date | Final date depends on the Shawwal crescent and may differ by a day |
| 17 May* | Tentative Eid al-Adha date | Final date depends on the Dhul-Hijjah determination and may differ by a day |
| 6 June* | Projected 1 Muharram / Islamic New Year | Tentative |
| 15 August* | Milad un Nabi | Tentative; observance practices differ |
| 26 December* | Isra and Mi’raj | Tentative |
Employees and learners may need to arrange leave or absence according to workplace, school and institutional rules. Always use the final local hilaal announcement for religious observance.
See the dedicated South Africa Islamic Calendar 2027 for more Hijri detail.

2027 Public School Admissions
The national school calendar determines term dates, but learner admission deadlines are provincial.
The Department of Basic Education advises parents to check individual provincial deadlines because registrations for the following school year can occur well before that year begins.
Many applications for the 2027 school year were processed during 2026, not during the 2027 calendar year. Provincial processes can include different application, placement, acceptance, transfer and late-application periods.
Because provincial processes differ, this master calendar does not invent one national “2027 admissions date”. Check the relevant provincial education department for current placement, late-application and transfer arrangements.
2027 Matric / NSC Examination Timetable Status
The public-school term calendar does not contain the subject-by-subject National Senior Certificate examination timetable.
The National Senior Certificate subject timetable is a separate Department of Basic Education publication. Add exact 2027 examination dates to this master calendar only after the final official timetable has been published.
