Coach Eric Tinkler

Durban City started 2026/27 with Khalil Ben Youssef, the former Kaizer Chiefs co-coach, whom the club unveiled in June 2026. He lasted seven league games: one win, four draws and two losses. The club let him go in late September 2026.

Eric Tinkler was named as the new head coach in early October 2026, with Musa Nyatama as his assistant. Tinkler had just left Asante Kotoko in Ghana. In South Africa he has coached Orlando Pirates, Cape Town City, SuperSport United, Sekhukhune United and Maritzburg United, where he worked with chairman Farook Kadodia and reached the 2019 Telkom Knockout final. The target he was given is a top-eight finish.

His first league game was the KwaZulu-Natal derby against AmaZulu at Chatsworth on 13 October 2026, which Durban City lost 2-1.

Chatsworth Stadium: Where Durban City Play

Durban City play their home games at Chatsworth Stadium in Chatsworth, south-west of central Durban. All their home league games on the 2026/27 fixture list are at Chatsworth. The club moved to Durban after it lost the use of Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg, which was home to Maritzburg United.

History: From Maritzburg United to Durban City

The club was founded in 1981 as Maritzburg United in Pietermaritzburg. In August 2024 the PSL approved a new name, Durban City, after the club moved to Durban. Chairman Farook Kadodia said the old name no longer made sense once the team had to leave Harry Gwala Stadium.
