Who Qualifies for the NYDA Grant?
According to NYDA, you can apply if you:
- are 18 to 35 years old,
- are a South African citizen and resident,
- have the skills or experience (or the potential skills) to run the business you run or plan to run, and
- are not attending high school (tertiary students may apply).
You must apply three months before your 35th birthday at the latest.
How Much Can You Get?
NYDA sets thresholds for how much can be granted, and one individual or business cannot receive more than R200,000 in total during its lifetime from the NYDA grant. For cooperatives with agriculture or technology projects, the lifetime maximum is R250,000.
The exact amount you receive depends on your business needs, the quotations you submit and the outcome of NYDA’s assessment. NYDA publishes a separate Grant Programme Thresholds document on its website.
