SA20 2027 Schedule: Season 5 Dates, Teams, Playoffs and Final
The SA20 is South Africa’s professional T20 league. Six franchise teams play a league phase, then the top four go into the playoffs. Season 5 starts two days after the Proteas’ last ODI against England, so there is cricket almost every week from November to February.

Opening Match: A Repeat of the 2026 Final
The season starts with Sunrisers Eastern Cape v Pretoria Capitals on 17 January 2027. It is a rematch of the Season 4 final, which Sunrisers Eastern Cape won to become defending champions.
How the SA20 Playoffs Work
After the league phase, the top four teams qualify:
- Qualifier 1: 1st plays 2nd. The winner goes straight to the final.
- Eliminator: 3rd plays 4th. The loser is knocked out.
- Qualifier 2: The loser of Qualifier 1 plays the winner of the Eliminator. The winner goes to the final.
- Final: Winner of Qualifier 1 v winner of Qualifier 2.
This format gives the top two teams a second chance, which is why finishing in the top two of the log matters.
Saturday Double-Headers
Four Saturdays in Season 5 have two matches on the same day: 23 January, 30 January, 6 February and 13 February 2027. Double-headers usually have an afternoon match and an evening match, which suits families who want a full day at the cricket.
