What Is Adult Matric?
Adult Matric is officially called the Amended Senior Certificate (ASC). It is a matric qualification designed specifically for adults who did not finish school.
The biggest difference from regular matric: there are no school assignments or class tests. Your entire result is based on the final exam meaning you study at your own pace, in your own time, and write when you feel ready.
The same certificate. The same doors.
Once you pass, you receive an officially recognised matric certificate the same one that opens doors to better jobs and further studies.

Thousands of South Africans pass every year. Here is how to give yourself the best chance:
- Start studying early. Six full matric subjects is a lot. Many adults do three subjects one year and three the next.
- Download past exam papers. They are free on the DBE website and show you exactly what to expect.
- Use the Second Chance Programme. The free classes are valuable and the tutors are experienced.
- Make a study timetable. Even 1β2 hours a day makes a big difference over months.
- Tell your family. Having people who understand you are studying makes it much easier to find the time and focus.
